The Domaine du Chant d'Éole vineyard (Mons region) has won the gold medal at the 29th international competition to find the best Chardonnay in the World for the second time in two years. This competition, which took place recently in Burgundy (France), rewards the best wines each year made from the famous white grape variety.
This Chardonnay competition has been organised by the Forum Œnologie association since 2002. For this global competition, more than 546 Chardonnay samples were distributed by 32 countries and tasted by 200 expert international judges. They included the Domaine du Chant d'Éole, which was awarded a gold medal for its Blanc de Blancs Brut.
This is the second time in two years that the Walloon vineyard has won a gold medal for this wine. This first prize is the latest addition to the Chant d'Eole's solid record of achievements, which already includes 20 international awards.
This domain located in Quévy, south of Mons, was created in 2010 from the association between a family of renowned Champagne winemakers and a large family of Belgian farmers (the Ewbank family).
It has more than 270,000 vines of traditional grape varieties spread over 30 hectares. Although this composition is mainly for the production of Chardonnay (97%), they also produce Pinot blanc and Pinot noir. The domain's current production is estimated at 150,000 bottles per year.
