The Liege team, EcoMOTION, which took part in the Shell Eco Marathon 2017 won fourth place.
EcoMOTION is a prototype designed and implemented by a group of Electromechanical degree students at the Haute École de la Province de Liège. The aim of the competition was to achieve the greatest distance with the best fuel efficiency. The power used for this is bioethanol.
Up against 60 participants, EcoMOTION 7 competed in the thermal engine prototype category. In previous events, the Liege team came 7th out of 70. Therefore, this year represents a great progress for this incredible project.
A result that is naturally down to the students' innovative work. Not to mention the collaboration with many industrial partners in the region which have contributed to this success. For example, the production of a printed piston engine "3D Titane", implemented in collaboration with SIRRIS and the Centre de Recherches Métallurgique in Liège (CRM).
No fewer than 1,437 km were covered by the prototype for 1 litre of bioethanol, representing consumption of 0.06 litres per 100 km. The ecological aspect is directly related to our society's concerns.
At present, the students are back from their trip over the Channel, but will be travelling to France at the end of June in order to perfect their machine and participate in a training session on the track in Le Mans.
