The European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation have announced the 40 shortlisted projects that will compete in the 2019 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award. Among them, 7 Belgian projects.
Among these 7 Belgian projects, two are from Brussels and one is Walloon.
These are three international projects:
-
Halles Perret in Montalaire (France) by the Atelier d'architecture Pierre Hebbelinck in collaboration with HBAAT
-
Solo House in Matarranya (Spain) by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen
-
Skanderbeg Suare in Tirana (Albania) by 51N4E, Plant en Houtgoed, Anri Sala & iRI
This is still a great recognition for the Pierre Hebbelinck Architecture Studio.
Les Halles Perret project, located in Montataire (France), consists of the transformation, renovation and extension of a Perret brothers' hall for a cultural center housing a music school, a dance school and a broadcasting room and a recording studio. For this project, the team has called on the artist-plastic artist Pierre Toby, whose highly pictorial work, by play of reflections and transparencies, voluntarily introduces an ambiguity in the reading of the spatial organization of the building.
The 5 finalists will be known on February 13.
The objective of the Mies van der Rohe Prize, awarded every two years, is to promote quality and to reflect the complexity of architecture in Europe, in terms of technological, constructive, social, economic, cultural and aesthetic achievements.
